so the first thing we do on day 4 is to find our OTHER friends who "just happened to be in Paris at the same time". our friends rachel and natali brought their friend leah, and we all ganged up for some fun sightseeing. :) first stop, versailles.
jancy, me, rachel, and natali
me telling some story to natali, leah, and rachel
our trusty train that got us to versailles (it took a LONG while to find it though)
le château
the videographer strikes again!
getting closer...
mom, leah, natali, and moi :)
king louis xiv in all his glory (?) and surrounded by peasanty-looking tourists.
rachel checks out a picture :)
Les Jardins
these gardens were IMMENSE. i can just imagine the nobles playing hide-and-seek. and it also had the coolest statues. almost all of them were portraying some classical figure or story. and i am a sucker for mythology :)
animals spitting water. hmmmmmm...
l'orangerie
probably my favorite fountain EVER. :)
Boating in the Canal
so there's the canal that louis made to water his gardens. and there were boats in the canal. and we just couldn't pass THAT up. :) so we went boating...
yes, i'm rowing...
it took awhile to get the hang of it at first, but i think i caught on pretty fast :)
so cute ;)
the other boat o' girls
natali then wanted her turn to row.
my favorite fountain again
a golden titan trying to free himself
frogs paying homage to some goddess. i can't remember which story it was representing.
from the top, next to the house.
Inside the "house" itself"
it was one of the most elaborately decorated things i have seen. and i can't exactly blame the french for revolting. i was most looking forward to seeing the hall of mirrors on such a sunny day, and this is what i get...
yeah. it's under renovation until 2007. although i was disappointed, it gives me an excuse to go back.
but this chandelier looked pretty...
here's the bit that they left out. definitely glorious, i will grant you that.
some of our party in the hall of mirrors.
jancy and mom learn something new about the peace room, next to the hall of mirrors.
a view of les jardins from the house
then, we decided to go get lunch.
Otter Pops fun: a short documentary in pictures
before...
...after. fun times :)
an obelisk, a fountain, et des après soleil
an obelisk...
...a fountain...
...ditto...
...et des après soleil pour the sunburns that rachel and jancy got. i just got tanner. :)
strolling up l'avenue des champs élysées
our target: l'arc. but we couldn't get any closer by just standing there. so we began the lovely marché sur l'avenue.
un cinema français. it was pretty amusing.
the louis vuitton flagship was under construction, but it wins the prize for the prettiest and most creative scaffolding. :)
then we reached it...
l'Arc de Triomphe
here it is dans toute sa gloire.
but we decided that just seeing it was not enough. so we climbed to the top for a cool panoramic view of Paris at sunset.
avenue des champs élysées . :)
a self-portrait. i was impressed. :)
awww. what a cute family photo. i bet it's our Christmas card this year.
staring off into the distance...heehee
five friends at the finis of a fun day. [+5 for alliteration :)]
Cruising the Seine
before we went on the cruise, i saw this hot car and just had to take a picture. :)
this was my favorite pic from cruising along. so there you have it,
the lovely Tour Eiffel, all glowing at night
