this is a model of the boat that Sir Francis Drake used to circumnavigate the globe. and it's going to do it again in a year or two. with people on it. :)
St. Paul's from across the Thames *cue Mary Poppins music*
Shakespeare's Globe Theatre
this was probably one of my favorite sights in London. just absolutely cool. and we were insanely lucky. not only did we get to take pictures inside the theatre, we got to see part of a rehearsal for Pericles. it was inspiring, and it was only the rehearsal. (but we weren't allowed to take pics during rehearsal. copyrights and such)
all the ropes are for Pericles and their other summer productions, such as The Tempest
my mom and sister sitting in the theatre. :)
me in front of the Globe.
St. Paul's Cathedral
we crossed the Millennium Bridge and went into the big cathedral. my sister and i climbed almost 300 steps to get to the Golden Gallery for an awesome panoramic view of London.
the london eye(!), parliament, and other such buildings
the millennium bridge and the globe
i like the mix of old and new buildings in london. it's so full of history and marked by progress.
then we went back down and posed on the steps and pretended to feed the birds. kind of. actually we were asking my mom what was taking so frickin' long to take the picture. :)
The British Museum
then we went to another ubercool place, the British Museum (which is free, btw)
THE Rosetta Stone. that was really cool
the statue of Rameses II that inspired Shelley to write his poem "Ozymandias"
a pretty discus thrower on the south staircase
tribute to the sun god. *giggles to bekah*
for
The Mousetrap, Performance 21872
that evening, we got a bit dressed up to go see the world's longest continually running play:
it was a most excellent Agatha Christie thriller, and if you get the chance to see it, take it up! it was a blast.
